Personal-19 in 2019

It’s that time of year again!

It’s always so fun (and daunting!) to look back on all of the images I took in the past year, to reflect on my work and to appreciate all the special moments I was able to experience. Photography is a gift that way and one that I hope I never take for granted.

I’ve been saying this for the past few years, and as I reflect on my personal work for 2019 I will say it again; my everyday work is ORDINARY. The older I, Dan, and the kids get, the more I’m aware that I just need to document these fleeting moments as often and as simply as I can. As a photographer of course I love seeing the beautiful and the creative in the world, but I can also can feel drained and pressured to make every image ‘magical’, so I’ve tried to let that go recently and have been satisfied to just keep it easy and keep it something that I can, above all else, keep up with consistently. The kids deserve it, and I know that they won’t care in 30 years whether I was shooting wide open for beautiful bokeh or whether I did all the creative flourishes, they’ll simply be happy to have all these images of them as kids, to bring back their memories of being together, with us, in this beautiful place we get to call home.

Time, time, time, it won’t ever stop, and so neither can I. I’m more than up for the task <3
